MSU wins bid to host African universities debate competition
MIDLANDS State University (MSU) has won the bid to host the ninth edition of the Pan African Universities Debate Championships (PAUDC) scheduled to be held at the end of this year.

MSU participated in last year’s competition held in Ghana and were the PAUDC public-speaking champions, after one student, Eppnogia Mutetwa, presented an impromptu speech titled Dehumanising Poverty.

“It is a great marketing initiative and a major economic boost for Zimbabwe and the City of Gweru, as hundreds of foreigners will visit the country and utilise various services, products and infrastructure,” MSU said in a statement.

“This year will see a trophy being made in Zimbabwe that will be used for all future tournaments held by the PAUDC.”

MSU is not new to winning PAUDC competitions, as it was the first debate team to have a female public speaking champion, who was awarded best adjudicator in public speaking, and to have two of their teams in the PAUDC semi-finals among other accolades.

The theme’s for this year’s competitions is Madzimbabwe.
