Zifa Midlands elections on this weekend

ALL is set for the Zifa Midlands provincial elections this Sunday with longest serving Zifa councillor and current Zifa Midlands chairman Brain Chishanga battling it out with outgoing treasurer Solomon Nyathi for the chairman’s post.

Outgoing vice-chairman George Sibangani has retained his post unopposed. Secretary Pervious Mathe will lock horns with Eddie Murigwa for the secretary’s post.

Godknows Mudzingwa is in the race for the position of board member, development, with ZPC Munyati chairman Farai Ngulube.

Former Gweru United chairman Asibu Mususa and Indarama Mine chairman Petros Phiri will retain their posts of treasurer and fixtures secretary respectively as they are unopposed.

Chishanga, the current provincial Zifa boss, promised to bring in sound corporate governance in the provincial football structures if he is voted back into office.

“If I’m voted back into office I will bring sound corporate governance to the league. I want our two leagues (Division Two) to be first in the country to be branded,” he said.

Chishanga’s opponent, Nyathi, said he was still finalising his manifesto, but hinted that he had a lot to offer to local football.

“Right now we are still working on my manifesto. But what I can tell you at the moment is that I have a lot to offer. If I am voted into office, I will bring in a lot of positive changes to the local game,” Nyathi said.
